Avoid the City Stress in Pai
58A mere four hours by bus from Chiang Mai Thailand, Pai Thailand is a serene, chilled out little town located in a captivating valley. It is popular among both Thai and foreign visitors seeking escape from the city. There are many charming old Thai style buildings in this town and also a few guesthouses that are just bamboo bungalows – ideal for those who are tired of concrete walls.
If you travel to Pai Town there’s a good possibility that you will be put under the spell of its charm just as some previous visitors have. A good amount of the residents in Pai Thailand came for a quick time and never left. They fell in love with the town and it’s chilled out mood and chose to make it their home.
Travel to Pai Thailand
The easiest method for getting to the Pai Valley from Chiang Mai is to take the public buses or the private mini vans that leave from the Arcade bus station. The buses are undoubtedly more safe as they take the route somewhat more slowly, but the private vans will make your trip somewhat shorter. The private vans typically race through the twisting and winding roads on the way to Pai Town Thailand and might not be the wisest decision for people that are faint of heart or prone to car sickness. Either way you will be able to enjoy a multitude of panaromic views of the mountains on your journey. the Pai Valley itself is quite small and once you arrive it’s easy to get around using a rented bicycle, motorbike or just take it easy and stroll around.
Activities in Pai Thailand
The temple called Wat Mae Yen is a fast and easy stroll from the center of town. The temple can be found at the top of a little hill and once you arrive you’ll be amazed by a fantastic view of the Pai Valley in addition to the nearby mountains and fluorescent green rice paddies below you.
A bit further afield you can see the Mo Pang Waterfalls where a cooling swim or thrilling water slide is possible even in the dry season. You should also take the time to visit Pai Canyon, located on the way to Pai Thailand from Chiang Mai. A short climb will get you an amazing view of the Pai Valley, Pai Town and the surrounding mountains. Pai Valley is also a superb place to see the sunset dropping below the mountains. Either location can be easily reached by motorbike.
Two of the popular tourist activities in Pai Town are river rafting and elephant rides. You can easily find rafting trips that will allow you to take a quick half day raft ride on the Pai River or if you are more adventurous there are multiple day rafting trips that take you through the Pai River rapids. Elephant rides can be had at a few camps and you can ride an elephant bare back either through the jungle or through the river, or both! You should know that if you choose the river ride you will get wet.
Or just do nothing, sip Chai tea, relax and watch the day slip by. That is also a favorite tourist activity in this wonderful town. Urban development recently has seen Pai losing its small town charms somewhat. Get here fast before it turns into another commercialized tourist trap.
