Are you interested learning how to sculpt your abdominal area in order to achieve that highly sought after six-pack?

When you have a nice six pack, it shows that you are have strength both mentally and physically. Not to mention the sexual appeal that comes with them! However, before attempting to try any exercise or diet to attain them, it is important to identify the muscles in the abdomen, and know which ones are targeted by which exercises for maximum efficiency.

The muscles that will help you achieve that sexy six-pack look are called the rectus abdominis muscles - these are the muscles that you really want to work. There are three parts to these muscles which are separated by down the middle by a thick sheath. If you focus on your rectus abdominis muscle region, you will get that six-pack look, but if you also focus on the muscles directly below it, the pyramidalis muscle, you can get eight-pack abs! The obliques are the side abdominal muscles, and are divided into two parts, external and internal obliques – with the external ones covering the ribs and the internal ones situated underneath the external obliques as they run down the side in strips of muscle fiber. The abdomen muscles discussed earlier cross over the obliques but in a much wider span, this allows your body to take it's core shape.

To exercise all these muscles, finding a workout plan that heavily involves your abdomen is a must. Crunches, despite what other advertisements would lead you to believe, are an incredibly effective way to work the center of your abs. Combine standard crunches with full-stretch crunches and side crunches to effectively work your entire abdominal area. Exercises such as leg raises and bicycle kicks can really help you to get to those lower abdominal muscles as well.

You also need to focus on total body weight loss and toning, as your abdominal muscles will only become visible if your body fat level falls below the 8% range for men and as much as 14% for women. You must follow a strict diet plan and workout regimen each day with a major focus on cardio if you want to achieve that distinctive abdominal look and core strength.

A quick way to jump start your diet and exercise program is to cut the percentage of fats that you consume each day in your food and drink. You also need to limit your caloric intake, however you need to take care when on a core workout program that you include enough calories to provide the energy needed to exercise effectively. Freedieting.com is one of many sites that have great web-tools that let you monitor your calorie consumption as well as show you what each meal has calorie wise. You need to focus on salads, vegetables and fruits when you are dieting rather than junk foods, salty chips or sweet treats. Salads, veggies and fruits are not only good for you and low in calories, but they also increase your metabolism, which allows you to feel fuller and be less tired after you do your workout. Foods high in fiber such as granola and cereal are also great for their boost of energy and their nutritional value in general.

However, managing your diet alone won't get you your six-pack abs! Above we told you that you have to do a lot of cardio, and to be honest that is a vital part. Any well paced activity such as jogging and swimming laps will work great. Jogging is not for everybody. Many people suffer from disabilities that cause their joints to ache from jogging so they need to seek other options. Swimming is one such option, though for those that do not prefer water, elliptical machines are the way to go. When you use these machines your entire body gets a workout, and using tools such as treadmills and bikes can give you a great cardio workout without stressing your joints.

These are the basics for what you need to get a six pack fast. Keep all these facts in mind when you regulate your work-out time and eating habits and in no time at all you will have eye-popping abs!
